The dates coincide with the European leg of Iron Maiden’s The Legacy of the Beast Tour, which includes a headline slot at Download Festival on Saturday 11th June. They added: “But in much more exciting news, those dynamic young guns Massive Wagons have jumped in to save the day! They love to rock and they love to be Covid-safe, so welcome on board to you, you Massive MASSIVE WAGONS!”Įarlier this week, British Lion premiered their ‘Bible Black’ music video exclusively on Planet Rock, and they announced a string of European shows for June and July 2022. Don’t bother with this album and unless they change the line up once again for their third album, don’t bother with Eternal Rest. The Darkness have now commented on British Lion's withdrawal, writing: “With a deep and unalloyed sadness, we have to announce that British Lion won’t be able to accompany us on tour this year, as they don’t feel able to join in with the Covid management policies being put in place by responsible venues and promoters.” I wrote this review to save you all time. I feel there are no reasons for anyone to check out this band or this album particularly when there have been so many other fantastic and exciting death metal albums lately. In 2017 when there is so much music out there bands need to offer something new or something that is truly up there with the greats. What do I mean by this? Well I feel no passion in the songs or originality. Number three: I feel this band isn’t into death metal enough. Even if this wasn’t death metal but instead hardcore I would still not see them as strong or engaging. They are as boring, irritating and as one dimensional as you can get. I feel nothing when I hear this shouting style used in death metal. Number two: The vocals don’t fit the music in any way.

Haven´t we all learned the lessons of the past and decided that clicky over produced drums are out? They offer no favours here to the already boring drum performance and creates absolutely nothing in the way of warmth or brutality. Number one: Its inexcusable to use that kind of high end plastic production in death metal in 2017. I feel most of the problems I have with this album though can be summed up in three ways In ‘Scorned in Fractured Light’ the main guitar riff is so boring and one dimensional and the harmonies the other guitar plays over the top doesn’t lift the song any further only dragging the track further into a cesspit of mediocrity. In other moments I feel the song writing is just lazy and uninspired. The twin guitar work on tracks like `The nectar of Evil’ and ‘Extinguished’ truly work well to combine an oppressive and almost blackened atmosphere, though I feel in both instances the songs fall short and never reach the climax they were attempting. The vocals are also very one dimensional, gone are the deep death metal growls and instead we have what can best be described as a hardcore/deathcore shouting approach. Immediately what struck me was the production, the drums are extremely over produced with the classic irritating typewriter clickiness that would make Fenriz cry out in frustration. My first impressions of this album were fairly positive, the album cover is a fantastic depiction of a child in bed becoming engulfed in the darkness of night leading me to believe the album would offer a darker approach, perhaps a combination of black and death metal like so many newer bands have been doing these days. In 2017 after considerable line up changes they have released their second album ´A Death in the Darkness` on Truth Inc records. The performances were also strong for a young band and I was excited to see where they would go next. They stole from the Nile playbook slightly utilising Egyptian scales to add an interesting and somewhat brutal flare. I became aware of them from their 2013 debut `Prophetic` which I felt was a pretty solid debut album, albeit not very original.

Eternal rest are a Brisbane based Australian death metal band playing a style that could be described as a mixture between 2000s death metal and metalcore.
